Trevor Boxall is an electric bass player from the UK. Known for his propulsive, creative and supportive playing, solid groove and old-school tone, he is heavily influenced by the songwriting style, tones, and playing on the classic motown, soul, pop and rock records of the 60s and 70s, as well as a huge love for jazz, prog, and improvised music.

Since 2014 he has been bass player and composer for UK jazz group, the Emily Francis Trio. Their latest album, ‘Atomic Tour Live’ captures the band on the road in support of their 2024 EP, ‘Atomic’, which followed their debut album, ‘The Absent’, follow-up EP, ‘The Way Home’, in late 2016, and LP, ‘LUMA’, in 2022.

In 2017 he joined busy London-based funk and soul outfit, Bad Girls Groove. He has since been involved in a range of projects, including tribute shows to both David Bowie and George Michael, jazz-fusion group Origin Quartet, as well as appearances with soul singer extraordinaire Jo Harman, and blues raconteur Connor Selby.

Opening up the last day of the @openairbluesfest 🇷🇴 a couple of weeks back with @connorjamesselby playing his tune “Falling In Love Again” - a tune with a great, funky swagger. I was falling in love with Romania again having played in Bucharest earlier in April. This time we were in the beautiful setting of the Transalvanian mountains. Unfortunately a thunderstorm of epic proportions cut our set a bit short but up until then, as you can see, we were all having a blast! Recent fun times with @connorjamesselby. An honour to play with this absolute maestro. Connor’s latest single “Someone” is already doing the business with over 10k streams - seriously urge anyone who loves both soulful blues and bluesy soul to check it out! The voice, the playing, it’s all there! Turns out turning 40 ain’t so bad when your lovely wife takes you to @belmondlemanoir for dinner and a lovely stay at @hartwellhouse! I did a quick(ish) video to demo how I set up the bass sound for the intro to the latest @emilyfrancistrio single, ‘After The Rain’, which came out just over a week ago. We’ve had some lovely comments from fans on this tune, especially from those attending our live shows, with many asking me about what bass I’m playing and how I get the sound for this tune, which has quite a sequencer, synth feel to it. I get lots of ideas for parts by getting inspired by different pedal combos and sounds working together. In the end this was quite an effective little set-up, combining the @ehx Pog, @jimdunlopusa Echoplex delay and the @jampedals Ripply Fall. The bass itself was recorded through my ever-present @origineffects Cali76 Compact Bass Compressor and BassRig 64 Black Panel pre-amp - two essential items in my live and studio set-up. For this new EP, I also limited myself to using just one bass, my @wilcockbasses ‘Mullarkey’, as I really felt it offered something different to the normal ‘jazz-fusion’ bass sound. It’s warm and woody sounding, with stacks of low end, but also really punches through especially live. Using flats, and playing with a pick really dials in a 60s vibe that I’m loving too. Having fun at at our gig at @verdictjazz last week. Really hitting the sweet spot on this tour. Next up, @stratford_jazz on 13th March! This time last week…with @emilyfrancistrio at @officialronnies. What a gig! Still buzzing after this one! When you’ve got proper rock star lighting like they have at @scottsjazzclub, you can brave a little foray up the ‘dusty end’ of the bass!
